Minutes Of the S.A.A.C meeting Held on MAY 3, 2006 In Attendance: Debbie, Doug, Rob, Amara, Heng, Jared, Paul, Cody Meeting called to order by Doug Overes at 7:10pm Seconded by Rob Opened the meeting with a tour of Broxburn vegetables. Very informative and interesting. Thank you to Paul and Jared. President’s Report: Convention 2006 in Gatineau, QC, we are still trying get someone to attend on behalf of SAAC. New letterhead logo updated. Motion to accept new letterhead, second by Amara, no opposed all approved. Received a letter from Judd Simpson asking us to support his campaign for CCFCC president. Thank you Judd for the letter of intent, you are an excellent candidate for the position. President, Doug, needs to be paid for website invoice. Junior website is up and running very successfully. Please go to www.candianjuniorchefs.ca and have a look at the wonderful job Travis has done. It has been brought forward by Heinz Meyer to get the Chef trade compulsory. Doug and he has sent letters to government and now the work begins by getting industry involved to set up a committee to start the ball rolling. Anyone interested in being a part of this please contact Doug directly. We have decided to have a dessert challenge to raise money to send one of our juniors to the Convention in 2007, and the rest to Childfind. This is sponsored by Grand Marnier and will be held in the 2nd week of April 2007 at the Lethbridge Lodge. Motion to accept by Amara, second by Jared. None opposed, all approved. Anyone having any ideas for the coming 2006-2007 yearly agenda, please forward them to Doug. The western conference minutes, motion to accept by Jared, second by Amara. No opposed all approved. New application for Curits Vollmin presented. Motion to accept by Doug second by Jared. All approved no opposed. Our Junior Membership position has been open for some time. Motion made to move this to old business and talk about rescinding position at next meeting. Motion by Doug, second by Amara. All approved no opposed. Culinary team Alberta is busy getting ready for next competition. Motion put forward to have our bylaws and ethics updated. Motion by Jared, second by Debbie. All approved no opposed. Doug brought us a new product to see and sample. Seasoning sheets or flavour transfer sheets. All in attendance agreed it was a Great idea. Vice Presidents Report: In the absence of Joe, his report brought by Doug. We are still proceeding with knife sets and plaques for scholarships. Secretaries Report: Debbie attended the LAC meeting last week and is happy to announce the apprenticeship outline is completed as well as the new exams and will be implemented in the fall of 2006. As well will input Jared into membership database. Treasurer’s Report: Rob presented Fred Hess with the Bachmeister award Monday night. Financial picture is looking great. Education Director’s Report: In the Knorr competition, Tini placed 2nd and Amara placed 4th. Great work Ladies. Our Sysco recipes applicants apparently had something wrong with application packages. This is being looked into. There was an advisory committee meeting at the college on Monday evening. Any one interested in the minutes please see Doug. There is a substantial increase in the 3rd year intake of apprentices. May need to run a 2nd intake of students. This is great news for the industry. Community cooking courses to start in the fall. These will be taught by the instructors, but all are welcome to ask to teach a class. Rob Sonnenberg and Allen Clampitt have been given a teaching recognition award and will be in Texas, U.S. to receive this NISOD reward. Great job Chefs. !
